If you market learning or training software and you want AI answer engines to cite the coverage you earn, pitch eLearning Industry first. It appears in five of the six buyer-question shapes the Machine Relations Index now publishes for Education & Training, it reaches rank 4 in two of them, and it outranks Forbes in every shape where both appear.
Here is the part that should change how you build the list. The Index does not classify eLearning Industry as an editorial publication. It sits in "Other observed source," the unclassified bucket. I built the cybersecurity, enterprise software and HR software lists in this series by reading the editorial-publication rows. On this category, that method would have handed you a list with the best target missing from it.
The first category with all six buyer shapes on the board
The Index measures which source domains six answer engines cite when people ask buying questions. Release mri_score_v2.0+2026-09-26+2b779408cfda covers 2026-05-10 to 2026-09-26.
Education & Training publishes all six shapes, each with its own denominator: best tools at 106 observed runs, how buyers choose at 130, is it worth it at 100, problem-first research at 100, top lists at 100 and head-to-head comparisons at 100. Every one clears the floor of at least 10 observed runs across at least 7 distinct dates.
That matters for a media plan, because the HR list I published a week ago had one published shape to read and five still collecting. This one has six. It is the first time in this series I can ask whether a pitch list holds across the questions a buyer actually asks, rather than inside one of them.
It does not.
The press class holds two of sixty top-ten slots
Take the top ten of each of the six shapes. That is sixty positions where a source is doing the work of answering a buying question. Two of them belong to a domain the Index labels an editorial publication: Coursera at rank 9 and Forbes at rank 10, both in problem-first research.

Across the six full leaderboards the Index publishes for this category, 37 of 600 ranked rows are labelled editorial publications. In the head-to-head shape there is exactly one in the entire top 100, Medium at rank 30.
A general-business feature is not competing with other features here. It is competing with Reddit threads, LMS vendor explainers and software-selection pages.

eLearning Industry beats Forbes on all four shapes they share: rank 22 against 29 on best tools, 4 against 19 on is it worth it, 4 against 10 on problem-first, and 37 against 71 on top lists. It also appears in head-to-head comparisons, where Forbes does not.
The label cuts in the other direction too. One of the two editorial top-ten slots belongs to Coursera, a course marketplace. Whatever Coursera is, it is not a publication you pitch. So on this category the "Editorial publication" field excludes the trade title a marketing leader should call first and includes a platform nobody can pitch at all.
Read the source-class field as the instrument's current taxonomy, not as a media list. The rank and the cited-run count are the measurements. The class label is an annotation on top of them, and on this category the annotation is wrong in both directions.
There is no single pitch list for this category
Twenty-six distinct domains carry the editorial-publication label somewhere across the six leaderboards. Twenty-one of them appear in exactly one shape. Four appear in more than two:

Everything else is a single-shape appearance: US News and Princeton Review on best tools, Computerworld on how buyers choose, Fortune and HackerNoon on is it worth it, Entrepreneur on problem-first, The Education Magazine on top lists.
A media plan that names five outlets and calls it the category list is answering one question out of six. Pick the buyer question first, then pick the outlet.
Where I would pitch first
1. eLearning Industry
Pitch this first, and pitch it for the evaluation questions. It is cited in 15 of 100 observed runs on "is it worth it" and 11 of 100 on problem-first research: the two shapes where a buyer is deciding whether the category solves their problem at all. Bring implementation evidence, cost-of-ownership detail, failure modes, adoption data. It is weakest on top lists at rank 37, so do not spend the relationship on a roundup.
2. People Managing People
Pitch this for shortlist questions. It is the highest-rated labelled publication in the category, at 11 of 106 observed runs on best tools and 9 of 100 on is it worth it. It also led the HR software list in this series. If you sell into both learning and HR buyers, it is the one title that carries across the two categories, which makes a single earned placement there work twice.
3. Forbes, Coursera and Entrepreneur, for problem-first research only
These three cluster in one shape: the research a buyer does before they have a shortlist. Forbes at 7 of 100, Coursera at 7 of 100, Entrepreneur at 5 of 100. Contributed thought-leadership is a reasonable fit for that shape and a poor fit for the other five. Do not let a Forbes placement stand in your reporting for citation coverage of the buying decision, because on best tools, how buyers choose, top lists and head to head, this release does not support that claim.
4. Training Industry and Course Report
Both appear once. Training Industry at rank 21 on problem-first, Course Report at rank 13 on top lists and 17 on is it worth it. Observed presence, not priority. Worth a pitch when the story fits the shape they show up in.
5. Capterra, before any of the above, if your record there is thin
Capterra is at rank 7 on "is it worth it" with 10 of 100 cited runs. That is not a pitch, it is a profile. If your category placement, pricing fields or review volume there are wrong or absent, fixing them is cheaper than a placement and it lands in a shape where no publication reaches the top ten.
What this hands your sales team
The useful handoff is not "we got covered." It is a sentence a rep can say when a prospect quotes an AI answer back at them.
For this category that sentence is: the answer you were shown is built mostly from community threads, vendor explainers and LMS comparison pages, not from press. Reddit is rank 1 in four of the six shapes and rank 2 in a fifth. If the prospect's AI answer named competitors and not you, the gap is more likely to be an absent operator-site and community footprint than an absent feature in a magazine.
That reframes the objection from "why does the AI not know us" to "here are the four surfaces that answer decided from, and here is where we are on each." Give the rep the shape, the rank and the cited-run count, not a clipping.
Method and limits
Data is the Machine Relations Index v2, release mri_score_v2.0+2026-09-26+2b779408cfda, window 2026-05-10 to 2026-09-26, six answer engines. The Index publishes a citation rate only after a segment accumulates at least 10 observed runs across at least 7 distinct run dates. All six Education & Training shapes clear it at 100 to 130 runs across 7 dates each. Every figure here is read off the six published segment leaderboards linked above, and every source-class label is the Index's own.
Three limits worth carrying. Seven run dates is a floor, not a long series, and rates separated by one or two cited runs are not a durable order. These are buyer-question shapes only, not news-driven citations, which this category does not currently publish. And an unclassified row in "Other observed source" is unclassified, not verified as a publication: I am reading eLearning Industry and Training Industry as trade media on the evidence of what those sites are, which is a judgment on top of the Index's measurement, not part of it.
